"I say build a bike. At least one in your life" ... Freak
After reading this advice from the master himself, and seeing two of his bobbers at the Breede Bash, my mind was made up.
I must build me one of those bobbers!
It's a big ask mind you, last time I tinkered with my 990, Julian took R2500 from my wallet
I hope I don't regret this ... my only consolation is that Andy660 said he would give me assistance with the build :thumleft:
In Dec I found a BMW R100RT on Gumboom for just over R10k.
On inspection of the bike, my wife's first response was "It's not very pretty".
Luckily I had shown her pic's of Freak's boobers, prior to viewing this RT!!!!
Not that I think I will achieve nearly such greatness, but it would be my project!
Apart from the rear breaks that were a bit "mushy", she ran like a dream.
So I parted with the coupons, straddled my new stead and drove her back to my house in Somerset West (from Fish Hoek)
So my plan is as follows;
1. Strip off the fairing, mount head light and front indicators.
2. Put her thru road worthy and register her in my name (current license expires in Dec).
3. Ride her as is for a few months to ensure the mechanical's are sound.
4. Start with the bobber conversion.
Yesterday afternoon I started with the fairing removal. When Freak told Wes it would be the "kukkest job you'll do in 2012", he was not exaggerating. I reached for the cutting disk on numerous occasions ... but by 7pm the fairing was lying in a pile on my garage floor.

Spare parts anyone?
