So, for some time now, I've been considering moving away from the bigger adventure bikes that I've been riding for the past 24 years, in favour of something smaller and lighter, and just possibly, a little more fun. Those that know me, will know that I've never really been happy with the soulless 1250 GSA that I currently ride.
ISome time ago I enjoyed reading on this forum, the comparison between the Desert X and Norden Expedition and after a lot more reading of reviews and tech stuff on the two, I eventually chose the Norden as the steed I'd prefer. A few days later I had a chance to meetup with @Mayhem who (unknowingly to him at the time), gave me significant motivation to follow through with my investigation, take the Norden for a ride. He was full of confidence that I'd not look back .....
So last Saturday I called RAD Paarl, and yes they had a new one on the floor, and yes they had a demo to ride. Come through they say. I helmetted up for the ride up and off I went. Immediately, I was taken by the store - lots of bike stock, plenty accessories, helpful people. I had a good look at the new 901, asked lots of questions, discussed the pricing and extras .... discussed trading the 1250. I took an instant liking to the bike.
"He", inspected my bike, took photo's, the VIN, the mileage, commented positively about the immaculate codition - he'd put it to the market on Monday, will get back to me to discuss numbers by Tuesday morning latest .....
The demo Expedition was in the workshop with it's tank off but there was an older "S" type ready to go, I declined not want to dilute the experience of the real thing. He says, the demo Expedition will be ready on Tuesday, I can have it for the day to test. I say no, the week is full, it'll have to wait till Friday .......
Tuesday comes - NOTHING, no phone call, no numbers - NIL
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - NOTHING at all.
I don't think badly, I'd asked hime to wait till end of week anyway, so Saturday morning, I'm about to get back onto the 1250 to ride up to RAD again. Just as I'm about to helmet up, I get the phone call ...... Hello, It's **** here from RAD. I've written your name and telephone number in my book and I don't know why! Are you waiting for something from me, was I supposed to do something - I really can't remember why I have your name here. I politely remind him, to which he replies ... "Oh Yes, let me see what's happening with that, I'll phone you on Monday."
I was an "In The Bag Sale" as close as confirmed as it could have been. He'd seen my enthusiasm, read my body language, should've known he had a convert and sure thing sale!
We'll see what Monday brings ......
