Aren't you glad you ride a real adventure bike. If you'd been on a computer controlled new ultra dual sport bike you'd have probably been in for a ride home on a trailer . Reports like this make me want to ride . The rides I've had that I've gotten into trouble and found a way out always make the best memories .

It sure helps if you do know your bike and if you can fix it along the way.
Quite honestly, my bike is already a bit of an overkill. Too expensive, too heavy and too powerful.
The best adventures you might have with a cheap thumper. Anything else is too much to worry about.

Harry, you got big balls mate. I would still be walking or collapsed in the river.
:imaposer: :imaposer:
My balls are sometimes bigger than my brain

DirtyHarry....allow me to ad some more pics of the action (prior to your "deep water" incident):

Respect DirtyHarry!!!! I can only wish to be so resourceful and admire your mechanical skills!!!

Nice combo Harry - Brains, balls, skill, commitment & a bit of luck - of course, an Airhead as well. (Not you, the bike  ).

Nice expedition  :thumleft:

Nice one mate. thanks for the ride  :ricky:

After all the fun I've had crossing the river, I am still faced with the aftermath of water entering my gear box and final drive.

When I opened the filler plug on the final drive the oil water emulsion came pouring out on top already.

This what the oil looked like when I drained the gear box oil for the first time after the trip.

Not the best properties of the oil.

After a short ride today I've drained the oil again and was not impressed.

Anyone got an idea with what I could flush my gear box and final drive with before I put new oil in?

:sip: I suppose you'll have to do some serious flushing before re-oiling, but the plus-point is that you can remedy the problem. :3some:

Very nice RR Harry, I would use cheap oil with correct grade for engine, gearbox and final drive and change regularly (like after 100km or so) together with the filter until the drained oil looks good again then fill with proper oil and new filter. I don't know of any other method to get rid of water properly.

Harry: Fantastic trip! Beautiful bikes as well! Man that river must have been a heart breaker. I can only imagine the conversation you had with yourself every step of the way. ;D

A brilliant adventure- the stuff dreams are made of and the drama that unfolded made it all the richer. :thumleft:

Thanks for sharing and all the photos!

I would agree with this, only would not skimp on the cheap oil for my baby.

Thanks guys.
After I have realized how much water found its way into my bike, I am not sure if I will drive through the next water crossing with the same eagerness.
I hope the entered water in the gear box and final drive will not cause any damage to my bearings.
My airhead project turns out to be the perfect adventure bike, except for the low carbs and intakes of the engine.

Don't laugh, I might carry a truck tyre tube with me for the next deeper water crossing
