So it appears that down here in the arsehole end of Africa, lane filtering / splitting on a bike is not allowed. Appeared in the magistrate court today for the inconsiderate fine I got in June for what I considered to be filtering. The officer in court suggested that a motorcycle is a motor vehicle in terms of the Road Traffic Act and therefore is treated in the same manner as cages. Got the fine reduced from R1500.00 to R700.00 and have arranged to pay it off. This however does not clarify whether you are legally allowed to do it.
