Saw a terrible bike accident on Rooiels…I stopped on one of view points and made a telephone call. While on the call there were 4 (I think) superbikes going up and then a few minutes later coming down again speeding passed and through the corners…While on the phone I am just thinking to myself that these guys are taking the corners at a very high speed…wish I could do that!

I stopped just before a corner so could not see around it. The bikes are flying past and around the corner. The next minute there are cyclists on that bend waving all the cars to slow down…After finishing the call and getting on the bike to go around the corner (expecting the worst) I saw the terrible accident. It appears that one of the bikes that went around the corner hit a cyclists. The cyclists was laying on the side of the road and the biker was laying in the middle of the road, his bike totally wrecked. It looked like the biker did not make it.

Went through all the coastal towns on that route and stopped in Gansbaai for breakfast. I ate at the Gansbaai Coffee Co. and met with the owner Henk which was also previously an avid Adventure Biker that toured SA and into Africa. He gave me a few route options.

I tried to check out the light house at Gansbaai called Danger point, but again they are closed thanks to a virus known as the Coronavirus disease also known as Covid 19…not sure if you know it.

From there I went to Die Dam, a nice gravel road and then through some more gravel routes on the farm roads to the town L’Agulhas. The most Southern town/tip of Africa.

I went to go see the lighthouse and went to the marked “most southern tip of Africa”.

From L’Agulhas I took some more beautiful farm routes to Malgas and went over the Breerivier with a ferry.

So at Gansbaai Coffee Co. the owner Henk gave me a free packet of their coffee roast. He asked that I must take a picture of the roast while on my travels, then post it on Instagram, Facebook or so. I am not very big on social media and told him I do not have social media accounts. He was still kind to give me the roast and said I must whatsapp him the pics. Closest I have to social media is this forum.

This is one of the pics I took while crossing with the ferry over Breerivier.

After Malgas I went on gravel to Vermaaklikheid and then another beautiful gravel route and ended up in Stilbaai where I will be staying for the night. Had a nice late afternoon meal and some. beer in the harbour and found a cosy guest house to spend the night. What a great day of riding!

Lekker, man! That little restaurant on Stilbaai's harbour makes the best tasting calamari I have ever had!

Thank you for the RR
I have just returned from a holiday in Mossel Bay and whilst driving along in the car, I kept daydreaming about riding my bike on some of those dirt roads one day
Only a pleasure.
You must do it, you wil enjoy it and will have a great time.

Agree! It was great!

Vermaaklikheid could be an interesting place - on our list to check out sometime!

Stilbaai was wet and windy this morning when I left. I got on a gravel road that goes to Gouritz. I wanted to go and have a look at the Ystervarkpunt lighthouse but unfortunately it is in a private nature reserve and I could not get access. The views on this road was stunning.

I still wanted to do some site seeing but I decided that I will get a move on to get to my girlfriend seeing that it is Valentines day and I can hear she is not so friendly anymore! I arrived around 2pm in St’Francis and was happy to arrive safe at my destination and to see my Valentines….

[emoji23] Sy was lank terug op skool…toe ons nog van standards gepraat het.

Has anyone done the Zuurberg Pass (R355) recently and can advise on the condition?

According to mountain passes website the pass can be extreme.
