Hi;
I have an upcoming opportunity to get my first ride in Africa and am looking for advice. (I live in Michigan, USA)
My church sponsors an orphanage/school outside Ndola, Zambia. They need a new van to move the kids around. I'd like to visit AND get an opportunity to ride in Africa.
So - my idea is to fly to Johannesburg - buy the van, load it up with a rented bike (BMW F650, KLR, DRZ-400...), drive to Ndola - then ride back. My time is limited, so I'd like to get the driving done in 2 days and leave 3 to ride back.
Is this a reasonable plan?
What papers will I need? Should I take the route through Botswana or Zimbabwe? Do I need a special driver's license? I'd like to camp on the way - is that reasonable? Is this a safe route?
I see there are several options for renting a bike - so that should be the easy part.
I'll take any advice!
Thanks
