My buddy (KLR Owner) has a problem with his fan not coming on when his bike gets hot. We ended up fixing the problem by running a wire straight from the battery to the fan and placing a switch just behind the headlight. Poor bastard must now remember to swicth it on himself though I replaced the relay and did numerous checks on the wires to see if any of the wires had broken. I also did the basic test on the switch where one takes the wire from the radiator switch to the frame - this did not work which led me to think it was the relay - turns out it was not ??? Also bike runs cool on the open road so I take it the thermostat is in working order - must I check it? I saw his battery cells need serious topping up, yet his bike fires up no problem.
It's not a bad idea to have the switch for when you doing technical sections slowly or hectic slow traffic, but it would be nice to have the fan working normally and the switch. Please help with some advise?
