A while ago the KLR started struggling to fire up. Before that it would clatter to life at the merest touch of the start button, no matter how hot or cold. It then started backfiring on starting and I as I could smell the petrol I thought it was probbly not getting spark, so I changed the plug. Problem solved, or so I thought. It started up again as per usual, but last night, after doing a 20km flat out sprint (and it really moved, for a KLR that is) on the highway, it refused to start after I had switched it off to open the gate. This morning it started, albeit sluggishly but later in the day refused completely. Yeah it was in the parking area of an Ultra liquor store so maybe there was some moral finger pointing from somewhere. The battery was still going strong this moning.
I haven't had a chance yet to remove the tank (side covers, seat etc. etc) to check for spark and wiring. Now I am mechanically a bit dof but maybe one of you will be able to tell me what I should be looking for. Incidentally (but it may be pure coincidence) the fuel level is at more or less the same level now than when the previous problems started. About a litre or two before reserve (I checked). Could it be contamination that is only contained to the bottom half of the fuel? Don't laugh. I said I'm dof. All advice much appreciated
