Long story short: I'm heavier than the previous owner of my 1997 KLR 650 C and want to max out the preload on the rear shock.
Measured the sag yesterday at 84mm when it should be 60-66mm (depending on if you use 30% or 1/3rd of the 200mm total travel).

Is there anything I should know (tips, tricks, techniques, best practice) before I buy a hook spanner and go for it?
The owner's manual is no help as it just refers me to the dealership and the service & repair manual stops at: "remove shock then use hook wrench to turn adjusting sleeve to adjust spring tension."
I'm new to this bike (and biking in general) so need things explained to me like I'm an 8-year old.

Ideally, I'd like to make the adjustment without removing the shock.

Pic for reference: rear shock as it's currently set up.
