The KTM 950 does have a bit of a reputation as a gas guzzler. However, if you're easy on the throttle the fuel consumption is very reasonable
A mate of mine has a 1150GS and we very often register the same fuel consumption when riding together.
The KTM's shortcoming, as I see it, is in the volume of the tanks :'(
With the ink starting to dry in the planning section of my diary under the "longer out of the way destinations" section ;D, I decided to look at some options
The Aqualine long range tanks are an option, but IMO EXPENSIVE and not worth the moola....

Went to Makro and bought two 5litre Jerrycans @ 99 Runt each
Looking for a decent "low down" support, I hit on the idea of using the rear passenger footpegs as a support, and started with the on site "design"
Back to the welding table for the next part of the puzzle
With everything tacked together - testing on the bike
Then fabricated an exact mirror image for the other side
Everything fits well
Now all that's needed is to weld it all up nicely and send for powdercoating
