A Ladies Weekend was held, and the weather was superb. Nine Bikes, 384 kms on Saturday 22 Nov 08. The gals stayed over at the hotel, and departed just after 10h00 on a full tummy and got back at 18h00, all tired, but nothing a Red Bull could cure, for there was still a dance to come after a snoek braai.
The route included spectacular scenery, riding along the Olifants River for the first 70 kâ??s, then seaward towards Lambertâ??s Bay where the speed addicted twisted the handles, then back to the Sandveld roads to Elands Bay with the breathtaking view approaching Verlorenvlei from the Lambertâ??s Bay side, 2 mountain passes, and a visit to the Bird Island at Lambertâ??s Bay was a worthwhile experience.
A highlight must have been the spectacular Versveld Pass winding up the Piket Berg, more than one bend forcing the riders back into a slowish second gear. A stop was made on a farm with a breathtaking view over the dam before going back down the mountain having the whole of the Sandveld in view and the Cederberg as backdrop.
A skills challenge was on the cards for Sunday morning, but was binned for the laid back atmosphere of the platteland got to everyone, and a unanimous decision was taken to chill by the pool before heading back to the city.
All in all a great success, and memorable experience where everyone; for some 48 hours everyone forgot the work pressures and enjoyed the comraderie of biking.
