KTM 1190 Adventure
I have a question , do you keep book of your biking expenditure ? keep a black book on it or like me , I am more or less aware of what I am spending but not really keen to know down to the last cent !
I was chatting to my friend about our adventures and that there is a long weekend in August as well as September and that after that nothing until December when we go on leave . He mentioned that he did a some calculations and as he is due for a big service as well as chain & sprockets and the cost of a weekend adventure is putting strain on his fun coupon budget , We then did a rough calculation on what we spent so far this year and adding it all together , its mindboggling .
I needed a new tyre in February , and he had just bought himself a 1190 adventure , I made a joke and said we should run in his new purchase with a ride to Ramsgate , he agreed and things took off , I have since done about 11500 kilos on my rear tyre , sold and bought new kit , bought a new visor for me helmet and a new screen for the bike.
We did two trips to Lesotho and for our last trip that was mid winter needed winter gloves and a down jacket , more expenses . Doing the calculation with the fuel one sort of take a step back , as the amount spent is just craze . and pulling up the hand brake is justified !

I will confess that my adventures are soul food , I return refreshed and looking forward to the week ahead . even a Sunday breakfast run does me good but a weekend away is awesome and I am hardly home the next adventure is being planned .
But after this weekends calculations I am stumped , cant carry on spending at the rate I was . I need a new tyre , service is coming up in 3500 kilos , fortunately just a oil service , but the oil has a price tag of nearly a grand for the 5l LIQUI MOLY .
Add a tyre and we close to 5 grand again and have not travelled a kilo .
In the grand scheme of things maybe better to be only slightly aware of what one spends on the hobby , because knowing the facts might just stop the bus ! I might be fortunate that my partner has move to Mossel bay and eating out is no more a thing , those funds are now used for biking , and I go visit her every 3 month or so , when I can get flights at good prices .
