Nearly a year since weve had some leave other than a long weekend and after much debating trying to fit 2 weeks riding into one week we set off last saturday on a CT to Hogsback trip via Garden route and return via Karoo and stopping a aplenty. In a nutshell s/west via Montagu, Oudshoorn, Groot Brak, Tsitsikamma Kirkwood to Hogback and back over S/East, De Rust to CT. Highlights being, wildlive outside Knysna and staying with good friends in Montagu and Kirkwood and Rob Wicks dirtbike museum in Hogsback. Nothing recharges the system better than this.. some pics and detail to follow

Lekker man, hoe find jou vrou dit agter op die BM is daar genoeg spasie?

Bly om te hoor julle kon toe tyd maak vir 'n lekker bike trippie.

Looking forward in reading your RR and to see some more photo's.

Yoh daar is mooi ysters in daai museum!! Ek sal daai SWM net sit en kyk as dit myne was.:)

A bit more detail & pics taken -Got the gs serviced, new spots and tyres fitted, Monster MotoZ on the back and TKC80 on front. As i have to fit a new set of spots every year as they always get bust by little stones was quite disappointed by these, first one blew 20 min after fitting and the other 24hrs later-dam chinese. Anyway- left on saturday midday first stop Happy Hoenderfontein Montagu. Always nice catching up with Kallie and had a good kuier and after a good breakfast we were off on R62. Early morning coffee checking out the fine koek koek chickens and new Cockrill -him with big yellow feet in 2nd pic and Ben getting us in trouble as always. Destination Garden route, mainly tar but some dirt from Robinson pass through Groot Brak and Sewe passe. Beautiful riding no pics unfortunately and 7passe closed. Tried for a coffee stop and on R62 just b4 Riversdal turn off but found the place closed down but had a bunch of pics still entertaining all wood be customers taking the turn off.

..Monday was the Elephant and Raptor sanctuaries visit outside Plett, beautiful bucket list stuff if you havent been there then some site seeing through Plett and off to Tsitsikama/Stormsriver for the night. Next day through some back roads off to Kirkwood to visit the Fourie family-alla "difflock". Hit our first locust swarms- wow some experience and also visited the Daniel Cheetah sanctuary outside Kirkwood - saw most of the big cats nice place. Nice kuier at Pierre and Izelle at there house surrounded by Citrus orchards(see pic3).- thks guys. Next stop Hogsback via some back roads, Paterson Alicedale and the buzzing metropolis of Riebeeck East, Lunch in Grahamstown then via Fort Beaufort/Alice to Hogsback. Tried our best to kill all the locust and the Gs was pretty soaked with locust jam. Quite a experience riding on tar and the road looks like mud with all the locusts and as you get to them doing 60ks a hour they lift off and wack your legs and the bike ending up behind the screen and between us-just glad the cooling system stayed clear. Grahamstown sort of holding up under the strains of new SA but poor F/Beaufort must be a top 3contender for the worst lookin and Alice not far behind. They are rebuilding the road between the last two towns and you have to travel on a service road next to new road which is not bad except for unmarked suspension breaking speedbumps and travelling there at sunset was a pain. Arrived around 6pm in Hogback last being there some 8 years ago - its still a beautiful village-wow. Happy Hogs restaurant will tick most peoples pallets including a fine Eisbein. Next day some site seeing and as it was very misty not to many pics and then a meet up Rob Wicks to view his bikes early evening...

Woke up to a misty morning and after breakfast did some site seeing dodging cows until the mist lifted, beautiful place. Robs fine collection includes most English and early European bikes. Lots of new makes never heard of before and he will passionately tell you the history of each make and bike. He also shared dirt bike history back to the hooligan days of Butch Hirsch and landing the first Ktms, other names Grant Maben, Chris Brand, Charlie Tissen, Tyrone Stevenson, Neil and Tony Riddell to name few. While talking we walked between the bikes and my favorites would be the various Huskies, Maico 490, SWM 250 and i think a 430. Mostly 250 to 400 cc 2strokes bikes CZ's, Greeves, BSA and DOT to name a few-stunning. Hope to pass by again and spend more time and also go for ride as he is still very active rider knowing the surroundings like the back of his hand.

Another two or three days would have been ideal but .. but life is a beech sometime. With predicted down pours and mist on the cards for our friday am- (that first pic in H/back just dont do justice) departure through Alice and Fort Beaufort again - the weather man was spot on and with the right kit on we travelled well just slow. Adelaide and Bedford was looking nice and tidied up and so was Somerset East our next stop by which the rain had lifted- the veld was looking good as well.
The next day after a lunch stop in Willowmore and cutting across on the nice Klaarstroom road we stayed in De Rust at the beautiful Olivers Rest. Next day brunch in Barrydale (see wild dogs is also diversifying into foodstuffs) final cup of Java in Montagu and back to home by 5pm. Nice ride 2000odd km and recharged.
