Howzit mates -
Back from the dead, I'm on my way to fetch the 950 in Greece and ride again.
Long story - after spending two months in Greece, and having two or three "definite" jobs fall through because of economic conditions in the latter part of 2008, I got talked into going to Uganda to start an aviation business. While there I got bitten by some fleas or something carried by waterbuck in a game park and became seriously ill. Doc initially thought it was Dengue fever but couldn't ID it, and this is a Brit who was knighted for his 30-year contribution to tropical medicine. My friend from KZN slept in the same bungalow, got nailed too, then got malaria AND this unidentified virus at the same time. He came very close to dying. I did not....remember that old Afrikaans saying? "....vuil goed vrek nie..."?
So I ended up in Joburg where it's squeaky-clean compared to northern Uganda. I found that I had some serious issues to get over regarding my stay in America - sounds weird, but I don't suffer fools well at all and the stupidity and ignorance there really got to me. I'm all calm and sane again
Then ended up in Tanzania, where I did some very dangerous riding:
Also got to play with some cool old machines:
And, of course, eat and drink well:
Later went back to Uganda, and after a stint in SA during which I did nothing but historical research for a book, I am international again, with regular SA interludes.
MY 950 is now getting Greek registration and number plate and will do some more European travelling starting next week. I was planning on going to Libya this month (seriously) but hotel rates are a bit high there at the moment, will have to wait for low season :xxbah:
It will live somewhere in Europe, goal is London where I have substantial research to complete in several different archives. Then it will go to Egypt, Libya and a few other places around the Med, as far south as Sudan, before getting to SA.
I appreciate all the kind words and good wishes from......3 years ago :eek7: and hope to ride through the Karoo (for one) before long.
Meantime I'll try and contribute some observations and experiences worhty of this fine institution :lamer:
