Losper’s scenic route/North Tsoelike river/Debbie’s very big adventure!

Most of you on this forum will be aware that Losper keeps on punting a road that runs North of the Tsoelike (Pron: sodeeky) river between Quacha’s and Sehlabathebe (pron: sesh la ba tebe) as one of the more scenic roads in Lesotho and advising visitors to include it in their itinerary. I have been on bits of it during Iain McDonald’s Rock Rabbits 7 bridges extreme enduro ride and  also when I’ve been riding plastics with Stuart Joyner in the Tsoelike valley and I was very impressed with what I saw.

However, the trip through the Tsoelike valley is enough in itself to make a trip worthwhile and when my wife said that she wanted to ride her own bike in Lesotho for her birthday trip rather than sit on the back I was happy to oblige. The road itself is not much of a challenge; you could do it in your car, the Beemer and trailer brigade would be able do it without any tales of life threatening challenges, but as my wife observed – if you are going to see Lesotho properly you need to do it on a bike.

We did this as a round trip from Iain McDonald’s farm. He was a busy boy that weekend. He had Travis Teasdale, Blake Gutziet and a bunch of roof hopefuls for a roof training weekend. On Saturday he took them on his famous 7 bridges extreme route and for Sunday had planned an approach up de Kocks gate and an extreme frontal assault on the escarpment but they were all worn out from the first day and went home instead.

The ride I did with Debbie is a 200km odd round trip (GPS track attached) from Quacha’s Nek returning through Ramatseliso’s Gate. As Losper says, a truly fantastic ride and we both enjoyed it very much. I’ll let the pictures do the talking. In the pictures I have the sign posts at the turn offs to the suspension bridge, the North Tsoelike road and the A4 to home as they are easy to miss. It is an easy ride, we left around 8am and got back at 3.45pm. Ian

Thanks for sharing the route

I saved it.  8)

Also when I was with Iain we chatted about Xpats do or die ride from Monantsa to Matatiele along the escarpment. If he pulls this one one off there should be a special WD membership level - riding God amongst mortals!  But not as below, I hope.

Before I carry on with the scenery I'm going to put in this picture of Iain's roof training group relaxing in the lounge after their long day's ride. The two missing ones from Underberg bombed out early in the day and left early. As you can see they are all sitting around enjoying high energy fruit juice drinks and waiting for the high energy dinner. No one needs to go outside because no one smokes and a bottle store would die a death around this lot. Iain says I should respect them because they are committed trained athletes but I'm not so sure. I don't think anyone I rode the Roof with waxed his legs and walks around the house in socks. If you did please don't tell me now.

Lesotho is such an awesome place for bike riding.
I have been riding there on my plastic and adventure bike on a monthly basis for the last 8 years and there are still so many places and tracks to discover.
We are truly blessed to have Lesotho as our playground.
Ian, next time take your wife thru Sehelabathebe and up Matebeng pass.  :thumleft: :thumleft:

Awesome place, if I ever decide to emigrate............ ;D  :thumleft:

Lesotho is indeed the most beautiful riding place there is, and I say this from looking at RR's from Losper, etc, as I have ever only been through Lesotho once from Sani to Katse and
out at Caledonsgate?.
All along the main roads, but it still was special to see a frozen waterfall, when a ice-maker machine is a 7th wonder to me.

Thanks for posting Ian!

Thanks Ian, nice RR and Lesotho is beautifull.

Thanks for this post and great photos showing a 'milder' Lesotho.

Now if I can draw this thread to the attention of some non Wild Dog friends of mine.................

Absolutely love Lesotho - thanks for the great RR.....see some roads that I haven't been on....time to go back.....

Went to school in Matatiele {with Ian Mac }went on many rides with Stuart J and other hooligans. My only problem was actually going to
school,we use to ride from a farm to school most days and often wandered off on route.
