motorcycling around usa.....any words of wisdom

howdy folks not sure if any of u have done this or if there are overseas members that might have a better knowledge....
I'm planning to go for 3 weeks in Sept and will appreciate constructive input re tips..what to be on the look out for etc
we doing tar only across east to west I'm doing approx 6000km all in all
plan is to stay in cheap motels at best a holiday inn express
i have found lots of info via the net...but wonder if anyone of the dogs might have done something similar and i can learn from ur lessons

I'm doing this with my wife and we on a road bike (no prizes for guessing which brand)  :biggrin:  but this not the point of my enquiry
