We left Nelspruit on Friday afternoon and traveled via forestry roads to Barberton – wet, misty and crappy riding conditions.

Saturday morning conditions were unchanged until we hit the lowveld in Swaziland from where we had good riding into Mocambique and on to Maputo. After lunch we decided to head north as we were real eager for the adventure to begin.  One of our party went down on the first piece of sand and we all turned back and into Maputo again for the night.

We then headed out again on Sunday and the game was on!  Sand against bikes.  Over the next few days we had brilliant riding; sand tracks (GPS navigated) were the order of the day until the guys were overwhelmed by fatigue and heat.

We finally had a rest day in Viloncoulos where we visited the islands.
Then for me it was solo back to Gauteng.

The locals were superb as was the food and beer.

We rode just under 4000 km over 7days – the last 500 km on my 640 was with only 5 teeth left on the rear sprocket - The sand spat the rest out.

Nice pic's.
Hear the sandmonster had a ball with you guy's. ;D
Nice 690 in the pics.

Seems Mr Sandmonster rules Mocambique.

I had a guy from Mocambique who worked with me on the mines, and he said that he saw a rock for the first time when he came on a contract to South Africa.

I suspect he told the truth.

Nice Report, looks like some awesome roads... Would you mind posting a gps route of the roads you followed???

Hey Slick

It was great to meet you and the rest of the guys, and yes you are correct that was an awsome ride.

After leaving you guys in Vilanculos , Alan (Al Bundie) and I headed further north to Inhassoro and then North West across Moz to Chimoio (+/- 600 km's) after having a rest day, we headed west into Zimbabwe though Mutare down south to Birchenough Bridge then west to Masvingo and on to Bubi river , our over night rest piont .(+/- 700 Km's) After a good night rest we headed south to Beitbright and then back home to JHB.(+/- 600 km's)

Total milage of trip 4599 km's (door to door)

Had an awsome time and can not wait for next year .

Pics to follow.

Wow, great trip, sand looks really hectic!  thx for rr!

Loner, pic attached of the bridge, also some nice scenery if you take the dirt roads to Kyle Dam (on way to Zim ruins).  Some camping spots out there too, and few people (relatively).
Nice area.
