Parallel to Leon's thread about gear, I was actually wondering if anything specific has been marketed and sold over the years that was actually useless... we are talking gear here, not bike bling...
Back in the day, I remember the surrounding ourselves with all kinds of interesting gear, and that stuff is still pretty much around still. I still wear my kidney belt on long trips, always wear really good boots, make sure I have the best helmet I can afford, never ride without gloves, cover all the hard bits of my body (elbows, shoulders, knees, etc)...
I was trying to remember if there was anything we used that was later determined to be useless...
