So my trusty steed left me stranded on the R21 yesterday. Was on my way to Pretoria from Kempton Park, doing 140 km/h just past the Irene off-ramp. I heard this "BANG" then silence as the bike free wheeled to the side of the road.
I thought the engine went, but closer inspection revealed that the chain snapped. ???
The chain busted the rear chainguard, wrapped itself around the front sprocket and smasked the plastic front sprocket cover. :bueller:
Luckilly my sister picked me up with her bakkie from PTA and took me home.
I have to replace the following:
front sprocket
Front Sprocket Locking Washer
Chain
Rear sprocket
Chain Guard
Front Sprocket Cover (plastic)
Chain Rail
The engine casing got dented a bit where the chain wrapped itself around thr front sprocket. There is no leaks etc. Should I be worried? I also started the engine and it runs fine, checked the front sprocket shaft with the engine running, and it is not bent. There is a little play in/out on the shaft but no leaking fluids etc.
Am I missing something? should I be concerned or replace other parts?
