Need Best GPS & Mapping s/w for SA?

OK, I am looking to buy a GPS for use in SA. Zumo 550 is A$200 more to buy in SA than Australia, but it obviously has SA mapping built in.
So, is Africa Series 2008 SA Streetmaps the best mapping to load in the GPS for SA, bearing in mind that most of my riding will be in rural, more remote places?
Is there a better mapping software package that would suit a different model Garmin GPS, rather than Zumo? I would also need to ppreload it all, as I will not have use of a laptop while riding in SA.
