Non-Trailer towing of bikes ?

My brother has a Corsa Bakkie, and is about to buy an 1150GS in the next week or so.

Has anyone here towed a large bike like that on one of those towbar type carriers, where the front wheel is caprive, and the rear wheel freewheels behind?

Is it recomended?

Alternately, where tostart looking for a used, lightweight bike trailer that will carry an 1150GS from JoBurg to Cape Town??
