Its holiday time and I'm in JHB for the most of it so we planned a quick one night stand to get out of the city for a while.

The group was going to be about 8 but only 3 pitched. No hassles cos we were out riding bikes and thats all that counts.

My partners in crime having a breakfast to start off the morning.

We set out to Koster on tar trying to cover as much of the boring ground as possible before we chilled.
In Koster the Golf club served us some cold refreshments or 3.

We hopped onto the dirt just out of town and cruised along at a fast pace on good scenic dirt.

The KLR was having fun up front. The roads were quite busy and we saw someone returning from the Desert Run as well as some other dogs I had ridden with the week before.
One sweet older Transalp 600 too.

The route to Groot Marico has been covered before but its quite nice with some ups, downs and quite a few bridges along the way.

Popi had to stand for the camera.

Thirsty work so we stopped here.

We were planning on staying near Zeerust for the night, a place I have only stopped in to have breakfast when going to Botswana.
A mix of dirt and tar saw us in Zeerust, a quick refuel and we found the Bull and Bush for lunch.
Not related to the one in Gabs at all, just stole the name I think.

We arrived in the camp site and were warmly recieved by the mainly 4x4 crowd there.
The pool was visited before we setup camp.

We settled down with a few Irish Whiskys and a fire. Our hosts provided firewood and ice on the house. Really appreciate it.

Kak praat, camping, whisky and a braai. Aaaah....

The next morning I woke to find this, fun making coffee.  What a win.

Me and Popi decided to go have a look around the farm, leaving fun in the camp.  We saw some Impala and got to cruise around in 1st/2nd looking around the bushveld.

Some pics of the morning trail ride.

Dan word dit net nag.
We took a wrong turn and were faced with a steep rocky descent that I figured would be no hassle so I went down,
I gathered momentum at a scary pace, was kicked off course and managed to brake hard and drop the bike before I went over a high step droppoff into some serious kak.

We picked my bike up and walked it down the rest of the way and then it was the 1150's turn.
Eish.

My camera phone died about here and I have no more pics.

*hectic*
I'll let popipants explain.

We got back to camp and pretty much rode the shortest way home avoiding the tolls.

Shot for a lekka time guys. Maybe we do it again before the work year starts?

Ok, so we decided to take a little casual ride through the bush ?!?!?

All was going well, nice scenery and very nice little roads.

Being the gentable men I am, I let Shark go first.

And the result

ZeerustWeekend027.jpg

He was going well and he would have made it but there was a 1 m drop on the left and side
He dicided to take a knie, and set the KLR down.

After helping Shark get the bike down, it was the pigs turn. And because we know Pigs cannot fly; we walked (read  carry) the pig down.
Man, that thing is heavy.
Before I forget, we refueled just before entering the camsite, so I was carring 30 littles of fuel. NOT a good idea!!!
And because we were planning a leisurely game park ride, we did not have any water either, and it was VERY HOT!!!

But we got down.

And as we all know.....what goes down.....must come up......

ZeerustWeekend039.jpg

The little rocks makes it slippery as hell and there wasn't  much grip.

I made it 2/3 of the way up before getting stuck

Thanks Sharky for pushing and helping.

this shows a little the agle and loose rocks. To makes things interesting there is a turn 2/3 of the way up.

Here's  a video of Sharky coming up a 2nd time (after helping me)

And on the way home. This is what happens when a large duff takes on 250KG of andvance Geman engineering.

Nothing too much to add from my side other than to say thanks for the awesome ride guys...

The Doornrivier 4x4 campsite is awesome and what good value for money. We each paid R30 rand that included nice shaded camping spot, a very good braai with grid and enough wood to sink a ship and the owner arranged for free ice for us as well. If you ever in the Zeerust area looking for good camping try them.

Just a few picks of the campsite and the boys braaing.

Nice one guys!  :thumleft:

I was driving on the N1 North to Pretoria on Sunday afternoon and was passed by a guy on an 1150GSA. Three things immediately struck me: (i) The sweet sound of his pipes; (ii) the wilddog sticker on the pannier; and (iii) the fact that he was standing on the pegs at 120km/h.... Now I know who he was/is.

;)

nice one there guys! i am sure someone will come up with a caption for the pic where shark is standing behind the bmw.

Was me  ;D

Left Kang that morning and decided to enjoy some last dirt on the way back home (and avoid the tollgate). Wondered at the time if it was Wilddogs and was only confirmed when I stopped next to Funacide still having a break next to the road.

Looks like you guys had fun. Lekka report :thumleft:

Sheez! Sad I missed this one.

Popi. Crazy bastid.

Looks like an awesome overnighter! 8)
