Final day (4)

The west coast sand tracks and the dreaded twee spoor roads heading south . For many just the name Hondeklipbay sends shivers down their spines and stories have gained legend status.

Although a long sand ride it really doesn't deserve the fear and with a little resolve becomes a fun ride with the beauty of the Atlantic Ocean at your side. With a bonus of early spring flowers and a cool sunny day it was a superb end to a great tour.

One puncture in four days and a dodgy fuel pump on the EXC500 our only problems after 4 awesome days on 9 bikes.

Watch this space for our next Orange River Wild Ride in the next couple of months.

Wonderful memories of a great trip.  That was quite an intense 4 day ride.  Thanks for organising it.

Looks lekka!
Would not try that on my GS, not me!
Any possibility of getting the route from you, would love to do a 4x4 trip there.

Hey Wild wood is this an organised tour, can it be done on smaller capacity bikes(fuel smaller) bikes like WR 250, DRZ etc. if so send info or website. looks like a good ride for a few maats,

DR BIG 750,

Yes it's an organised tour with a support vehicle that allows most of the route and carries fuel. The distances between stops are even out of reach of the bigger bikes.

The trip is doable on the smaller bikes , but with the caveat that the first day is a long stretch of gravel roads (350km) up to the Orange River. (not great on a little bike)

We'll be doing another 4 or 5 day Orange River Wild Ride trip in the next 6 weeks. If you'd like to get a regular update on upcoming tours send me a PM with your email or email it to me john[member=19655]WildWood[/member].capetown .

Namaqua 4x4 Ecotrail / Richtersveld / West coast sand tracks

Not pillion friendly and you must be able to do long sections of sand tracks.

Two ride options:
Cape Town - Orange River - Cape Town
Option 1.
- Leave Cape Town Friday morning (20th) and return Wednesday late morning (25th)
- 6 days (5 nights B&B)
Option 2.
Van Rhynsdorp - Orange River - van Rhynsdorp . ( miss only 1 work day and who is actually going to work on that Monday???)
- Meet option 1 group at Van Rhynsdorp (300km from Cape Town) on Friday evening and return Tuesday (Heritage day) afternoon.
- 4 days (4 nights B&B)

:sip: Maar soos dit vir my lyk , dis 'n plastics only trip, jammer, ek dink ek sal plek-plek bietjie sukkel met my 800 xcx ( truimph), wat stel jy voor is die beste bikes?

Herklaas, if sand doesn't scare you this trip is easy.

I've had many big bikes, KTM1290,1190,990, GS800,HP2 and even a GS1200 complete the tour.

This is the toughest bit. https://youtu.be/FiFGQnZzBnQ
