I have a Wintex riding jacket. It has pads on the elbows, shoulders and at the back. These are foam pads and fit into the jacked, so they are not fixed to my body.

Jackets are expensive (From R2k).

Ballistic jackets have far better padding (harder, fixed to body, includes chest back shoulders elbows), bot the material between pads (from elbow to shoulder for instance) is gauzy and would probably tear without an abrasive resistant jacket over it. The ballistic jackets however start at about R600.

The more I look at the ballistic jacket the safer it looks, and it is a lot cheaper.

Which is better?

PS. This argument goes for riding pants vs leg braces as well.
