For days I've been smelling fuel around the fugly, and even noticed some dampness near the tank and carburettor, thought the old girl was having her monthlies ... Knew it was around the fuel tap area, and reckoned the 25-yr-old OEM tap had its day. Consulted with KLRDOC who suggested it was time to tie her tubes and turn the vacuum-operated tap into a gravity feed. So, finally decided to inspect this lot, and imagine the surprise to find a ball bearing in the "enrichment tube" that was dangling loose ... WTF!! Turned out the "expert" in the capital city of the Kingdom of the Zulu who previously had sorted out other minor problems had shoved said ball bearing down the tube (without informing me) but neglected to clamp it, and for the tube to work its way loose, and for the whole contraption to piss fuel for as long as I was smelling it.
So, clamped offending tube but realised that the tap in OFF position doesn't stem flow, leaving me to speculate that it's time for a new, gravity-fed on/off fuel tap. Do the REAL experts agree? And can you help, KLRDOC?
