I had a dream. An idea.

Each year there is a well known gathering and outride to go look at some yellow flowers
near Caledon. The riders donate pieces of silver to the church and for that get to ride good flat
gravel roads through beautiful countryside. I went once and it was great fun.

The dream I had latched onto the same idea but instead of tiny softly yellow flowers the riders will
go to look at big hardy red and brown flowers. Instead of high speed flat gravel roads the riders will
ascend a mountain on a slow going trail. This will be the Protea Run!

The start.

Now we are in Protea territory. These flowers are pretty but rather stay away as they will wipe you
right off your bike.

Wow nice pics there :thumleft: My bike would not have looked the same this morning had I also joined.

Yes, we saw Pote as well!  :thumleft:

Next time fit some knobs and come try. The track isn't a bike breaker, SACK took his 800 through
with little sweat, but this IS Matroosberg territory so don't expect a doddle. I rate it a level 1 Red Route.
Matroosberg 4x4 is level 2 and for level 3 you have to ride the Roof.

It's almost that time of the year again for the snow.....

Glad you made it home dry...Michiel and I weren't quite so lucky.

Had a great time though.

Thank you very much Michiel! How is that scenery??

Michiel did not photoshop the bike in the air, he lowered earth. :ricky:

The countryside round Ceres is beautiful and with some elevation from the surrounding
mountains it just gets better. The Dawgs living in and around Cape Town are so lucky
to have so many different landscapes to explore within 100km ride. Ceres offers up something
different than Caledon. This is just an idea but if there is an community in the Ceres area that
needs extra funds for community support I think it will be nice to host an outride of sorts.

I paid +- R150 on two occasions to have the opportunity to ride up Matroosberg 4x4 route.
I will do so again because every time I go my heart beats in my throat, my limbs shake and days
afterwards my body is sore and stiff from the stress it endured. A track that does that is worth
paying to ride! That is apart from million Rand view from the top of Matroosberg.

If the farmers around Ceres open up their land for such a ride as the Caledon farmers do it will
make for an awesome experience. The idea though will be to make this an technical and tough
ride so those who enjoy that sort of thing will call it the Protea Run.

I'm in - just say where and when  :thumleft:

Not sure if that last picture will encourage anyone in joining!  :lamer:

The idea will still be that one should be able to take a 1200GS on the route as well.

Matroosberg019.jpg

But guys who do, will do so on their own risk.

I think its a good idea,
And that Stone house is on Lauries farm in Ceres.
I had the privileged of sleeping over there one night on the Kerk bezaar Ride,
We had to follow Laurie up there in the dark .
Him on his KTM950 with a box of wood on the back and Crossed-up , Antonw and myself trying to keep up.

He has some stunning roads on his farm
