R100/7 starter motor

Hi guys

My R100's starter motor started playing up the other day. Initially i thought it was the battery but i tried jumping it off another battery and still no luck. Its sounds like the solenoid is kicking in and out repeatedly. Is there some inherent problems with these starters that you guys might know about. Also where the hell is the starter motor? To be honest i haven't had time to strip anything down and start looking but maybe a bit of info from some knowledgeable guys here would help me save time.
