Ok.
I recently became aware of one of my wheel bearings starting to go. So this afternoon it was time to rpelace them quickly.
I did not replace the bearings on the sprocket carrier as they were still fine and my budget is a bit limited.
I bought 2 x wheel bearings and 1 x seal from BMG for R120.
NRs :
Bearing 17X40X12
Seal 25X40X7
Special tools used
1 x metal rod to use as a drift
1 x BFN (big farking hammer as per F650.com)
1 x Circlip plier
Ok here is how.
remove wheel (duh)
remove sprocket carrier and cush drive
pull put the seal on the brake disc side.
This will expose the circlip
Now use the circlip plier to remove the circlip
The bearing is now ready to some out on the brake disc side.
Now apply some heat. I used my camping gas stove that actually worked very very well giving nice even distribution of heat.
With the hub nice and hot (Blistering hot if you touch it) I pushed my drift through the hole from the top and used the BFH with a few gentle taps the the bearing fell out.
Then I turned the wheel over and heated the other side.
Here you can see the bearing spacer. With the other side nice and hot I tapped against the bearing spacer and the other bearing dropped out.
Now it was time for bearing one to go back in .
While the brake disk side was being heated again I went to fetch the bearing that was cooling of in the freezer.
then the wheel was turned over and the new bearing dropped in and tapped into place
With the wheel heating over the stove I went to fetch the other bearing from the freezer.
And then dropping in the spacer before tapping the bearing home.
And there you go. Half an hour later Jemima was back on her wheels and ready to roll.
