sent the GSA in for the racall of the rear holding plate
got the news that the big bearing is shot , told them to replace , they did , and then they said the shaft the bearing sits on was worn
ran around to the dealer , they couldnt source another second hand shaft ( BMW doesnt even have it as a listed part )
sooooooooooooooooooooo they wanna replace the whole diff !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( because of a fooking shaft !!!!!!)
R 19000.00 FOR A NEW DIFF
I "WIGGLED " The shaft , no excessive wear at all ( maybe the "normal play caused by the inner and outer race of the bearing ) . spoke to mecchie and asked what the shaft looked like , his words " looked shiney from where the bearing sits" ......................
told them to put it back together again , and i will take the chance
now this is the second time it has happened to me on two different bikes , the first one on 90 odd thousand keys , this one on 51000
The bearing ( old one) was badly kukked , it had rust on it
is this a trend on the GSA "s my latest one is a 2009 model
MY FEELING IS , the worst that could happen , is that i may get less mileage on the bearing ( coz i didnt have the shaft replaced ) and i dont think i will "lose" a wheel
any thoughts on this out there
if i followed BMW "s advice and replace the whole diff , it would make owning the GSA more expensive than a porche i'd say
