So for about the 3rd weekend in a row we were out checking out routes for Alfie's DS weekend.
Finalizing a route is quite an involved process. It starts with studying high resolution maps as well as Google Earth, then the farmer needs to be contacted to see if he is ok with a route going on his land, and finally the route needs to be ridden to see if it is worthy as a route and to see if it is actually rideable.
Blake, Hugo and I met up at Crossways in Hilton at 07h30, the plan was to look at a few potential routes in the Impendle area
The weather was sunny and dry, with a cold nip in the air. Still some snow visible on the top of the Berg
Blake having a look at a rocky path down into the valley that we had seen on Google Earth
We rode about a km down a steep rocky path, but decided it would probably be a better idea to ride round to the bottom and try come up the pass as there were some fairly hectic rocks that we weren't sure we would get back up.
The start of the pass which wasn't too bad
A few pics at the top
Nice little river crossing on the upper Umkomaas
Next weekend we will go back and ride that rocky pass from the bottom. I am sure the guys on the ACDS festival are going to love it.
