Why are people so resistant to technological progress? How many movies exist that depict machines taking over the world and slaughtering humans en mass?
Surely there is no reason to think that a sentient robot or computer would feel any specific need to kill or enslave humanity. I mean, I never felt like killing my parents. Why would machines want to kill us? Is it a cross between basic xenophobia, and Judaeo/Christian/Islamic self-hate/guilt? Are we conditioned to think that we are bad from birth, so obviously, something that can dispassionately judge us, will find us unfit?
Is that why the Japanese have no fear of high tech stuff?
As bikers many of us shun complicated electronics and yearn for basic machinery.
The first bikes fitted with CDI (condenser discharge ignition) units were ridiculed as occasional failures were reported. Today that simple component is indispensable. Seatbelts and air bags in cars were actively resisted by motorists until they had no other option and cars were fitted with these devices as standard. Now we wonâ??t buy a car without these things.
What are the advantages for holding progress back and encouraging â??old schoolâ?? engineering?
How can you justify riding a 20year-old 80GS fitted with a GPS and mp3 player blaring into your carbon fibre helmet?
Are EBD, ABS, EFI and all those three letter words destroying the Zen of biking or is it a saviour of a beloved pass time?
