:thumleft:

Afgespreek  :thumleft:

Amazing trip.  My comment concerns luggage:  I learnt from my trip up https://mzee-jaki.blogspot.com/2009/10/everyone-has-dream.html  that hard luggage panniers in spite their problems protected me from the many falls, and the bike.  I have trax,  sometimes they were completely out of shape, but merely hammered them back into shape.  The mounting frame broke once: I merely welded them back.  my point is from my experience.  I would rather stay with hard luggage components.

Briljant Jo  - ek het elke oomblik van die RR geniet en was great om jou te ontmoet hier in Durbs. Al die beste met jou toekoms planne.

En ek reserve ook solank n boek sodra hy klaar is  ;D

Yep, it's a personal preference. I prefer soft luggage nowadays.

Very enjoyable reading this Jo , just caught up on the last 4 pages. Thanks for sharing and well done .  :thumleft: :thumleft:

Glad Michnus and Elsebie could help and glad you didn't have malaria ! and haha about that bike carrying the sofa.  :imaposer:

You are very brave woman.  :thumleft:

Thanks JO !! This was an epic journey and you are indeed a remarkable lady.
After we met in Windhoek, my daughter said our lives feel so dull after listning to your experiences.
See you when you are in Windhoek again.

Hello Jolandie,
I heard of your story when last year Laurika contacted the dogs to escort you on your way down from Jo'burg; but only read your RR recently. I just finished it...something I have been reading at night like a bedside book...except that the story gets better and better. (+- 10 days of pure joy)

So many places, situations and knowledge that you have and can relate to this. I thought I was an adventurer...but girl: whaou...you are the master.

Like you, I wanted to see the world; I have been around and discover one thing for sure: there is so much to see. You can go back on places as often as you want; it keep on changing. People get older...most of the time wiser...but I realise that so far I had a fantastic life...you can not get better than this.

Reading RR like yours is saying...go and ride !

I am a French man who grew up in Geneva/Switzerland...one of the most boring (but beautiful) cities in the world when you are 15 years old and want to see life (day/night, good/bad/noisy/quiet/rainy/sunny/snowy...etc..) !!!
Growing up in Switzerland; I did a lot of alpine snow ski. But one thing, I wanted to do is to travel the world, so I end up in Kenya for 5 years and being through the Hell's route, Turkana, Marsabit, Nakuru, Nanyuki, Nairobi...this was a bit like I was seing myself traveling with you.

Than in 1990, they free our national hero...Madiba ! I came and look...and became a South African...married a beautiful South African Girl...created a legacy... children, grand children...

South Africa had to be.

Starting riding bikes (hum a scooter on the N1 to cut traffic) it was only a short time become the real bike adventure bite me...this is the closest thrill like alpine snow ski can bring you. A freedom that can not be explained unless you experience it yourself.

I am a very emotional person...you put tears in my eyes (I am a man...men don't cry !) My :pottytrain2...my eyes are red...what a feeling you must have...what a life full of stories to tell (and to dream of).

Unlike you, I am a lazy person and did not learn Afrikaans, nor Swahili...
Good luck with the rest of your adventures.
Olivier

PS: I love food (more like a passion), wine, beers, whiskeys...and a few brandy and coke with a nice braai with nice people.
Totsiens...

Thanks. I mainly used a GoPro. And a Drift for a little while but I found that the Drift didn't work well for me. It might just have been my Drift but I found the footage to be of low quality. Checked the SD card, which was fine. So don't know why exactly.
Still use GoPro.  :thumleft:

I agree that Gopro is just better; we have done a round island (Gough Island) the other day during take over and we fitted a couple of Go pros to the Helicopters belly. We got the most amazing shots/footage. Definitely in a better league than the drift in my experience

Agreed.
There are a number of options regarding action cameras. Garmin Virb, Sena, etc etc.
There's an awesome article somewhere online that compares all the cameras and gives you a really good idea of which one falls short where. I'll search for it.

Great report and well done on such an awesome dream and adventure. Loved reading and living the adventure for the past couple of days, thanks a ton!!

Yo Allow me to me comment and say very welcome to Pellie on the forum, and congrats on the bike! There should still be 2 decades of good riding ahead! Age is just a number! Yo is not all that active on the forum these days and I hope it is because of the Dakar? or another adventure? Anyway, we are looking forward to the book You, some publisher will bite and benefit by getting you on board!  :thumleft:

After reading the latest replies, I thought I'd post a short update as to the 'post Africa' report. :)

It's hard to think it's been a year since I finished the trip. How time flies!?
I've been keeping myself busy with all kinds. Since I got back I've come to realise just how much I absolutely LOVE enduro riding, and especially technical riding. So I've been doing loads of training.

Recently became the first woman to have completed the advanced off road riding course at Country TRAX. Jan Staal is now my personal trainer and it's been amazing learning from such an amazing human being and a true master.
I've been training to try and become the first female rider to qualify for the GS Trophy. Next qualifying rounds happening middle next year or thereabouts.

I've recently become the first ever female brand ambassador for BMW Motorrad SA and also founded the, now, biggest and only global female focused initiative for BWM Motorrad called "BMW GS Girls".

I'm training to also become an internationally certified off-road instructor in the near future.

Apart from the riding - the book is coming along nicely. Still hoping to publish sometime next year.
And I've been giving motivational talks all over.

So it's been a pretty busy time. Hence my absence from the forum.  :peepwall: :ricky:

Thank you for all the kind messages and replies! Really awesome!  :3some:

Wishing you all a wonderful festive season. Be safe out there!
