Hi,
I am looking to plan an overnight, tar roadbike, trip to Memel, the DS bike route was much easier but to find decent tar in the outlying areas is not so easy.
The route I am looking at is East Rand to Standerton via R23, then Vrede via R546, then Volksrust Via R543, Then Newcastle Via N11, then Memel via R34.
HAs anybody been on these roads recently, know the conditions?
I was on the R34 from Vrede to Memel this past weekend and it was quite narrow, and bumpy from all the repaired potholes, generally no shoulder to speak of, certainly wouldnt be a comfy ride for a road based bike.
