Redrider and myself decided to ride around our neighborhood and see if we can find the star crater, I have seen some ride reports and had the coordinates. Another bonus the summer rains have turned everything into a sea of green :thumleft: First up underneath the N1 through some veld.
Play time, you never grow old when on a dirt bike. Just as much fun riding over these mounds as when you did it as a teenager on your bmx.
On our way to Smuts house via a railway service road, thank goodness for dirt. We also managed to skip the line of cars making their way to the flea market.
Other side of Smuts house we got onto some tracks that made their way over the hills and also came across one or two other bikes enjoying the great riding weather.
Double checking the directions, star crater was close ....
But we ended up on the wrong side of the Jukskei river and Redrider ended up blocking a single track to the dismay a local mountain biker > We had to double back and take another dirt road near Midstream and eventually rode down into the crater, a shot as we passed it going down.
We rode along the single track around the crater and through the abandoned farm house and old barn, too much fun. I even managed to pull a wheelie from the one side of the barn to the other, a new distance record for me
Could not find much info but it's certainly worth a visit, I reckon it must be at least 40m deep and about 60m across. This old farmhouse still had pressed steel ceilings, built around the 40's or 50's I would guess.
Dankie Kobus was n lekker ride :thumleft:
