Finally a fix for the biggest design flaw of the F650 & G650 singles as well as the F650 / F800 twin:
Sealed steering head bearings fitted with integrated shaft seals.
Your steering head bearings are crucial parts to ensure good handling and high speed stability of your bike. Worn steering head bearings are one of the leading causes of stability issues & speed wobbles and habe the potential to cause a tank slapper or a nasty crash besides making the bike really unpleasant to ride.
If you only feel the slightest notch when turning the steering over the centre position you are in for a replacement. If your bike snaps at rear view mirrors of cars when lane splitting towards a red robot and just does not want to go straight or constantly wobbles and is unsettled at higher speeds you will have to budget for this too.
Please note: This is NOT the cheap quality bearing kit consisting of standard open tapered roller bearings (which do fit) and some loose shaft seals (which don't fit :-\ )
The bearings are high load capacity bearings & made in Japan.
The sealed bearings will outlast the OEM setup by far paying for the higher price of the bearings very quickly if compared to the open aftermarket bearings. AFAIK they are cheaper than the also open OEM BMW parts.
As for any DS bike which comes with a sealed steering head you can expect a service life of 50,000km and more as long as you just stay away with the pressure washer.
The bearings fit:
All R 13 type BMW's: F650GS; F650GS Dakar, G650GS, G650GS Sertao (that's all the fuel injection singles)
All K15 type BMW's: G650Xchallenge, G650XCountry, G650XMoto
All K72 BMW's: F650GS & F800GS
All K70 BMW's: F700GS
They do NOT fit the BMW E169 F650Funduro & F650ST! (That's the carburettor singles build in the 1990's. If you have one of those don't stress, your bike's steering head is sealed.
The kit replaces the part no's 31421234509 (Ring, 2x) and 07119985070 (bearing, 2x)
Cost: R800 for the set.
I can mail them to you and also fit them if you bring your bike along. Both obviously at an additional fee.
