My wife has organised an escorted ride through Shamwari Game Reserve this coming Saturday.
This ride will be off the main public road routes through Shamwari. Mainly 'twee spoor' tracks with some nice hill climbs and lots of game. These roads are the ones normally used for the game drives and out of bounds to the general public, unless you are actually staying at the lodge.
This will be a once off event, possibly never to happen again. The cost will be R500pp, which includes the guided ride, breakfast and a conservation movie afterwards.
The funds generated by this ride will be used by Shamwari to give something back to the Anti Rhino Poaching guys. Note, it will NOT be used for Anti Rhino Pouching itself. Whatever will be arranged will be along the lines of a big "Thank you" to the guyz who daily put their own lives on the line for the local rhinos.
Please indicate whether you would be interested as there are a limited number of spots available. (At this point only 10)
This post will not be a debate about the pros and cons of the ride or how the funds will be used.
A few of us did a recci ride last weekend. Below is a photo taken as we ended the ride. This is what we are trying to preserve.
