Shelf-life of tires?

What is the shelf life of tires? I have a tire manufactured in 2015 that I want to fit. However I am a bit hesitant because of the age of the tire. What is the recommended life time of a tire according to you guys? Not the manufacturer because they will obviously want you to replace as often as possible. Is it still safe to ride with a tire of that age?
