A Cautionary Road Conditions Update
As a service to the biker community, this website has published a reader's cautionary note to the public regarding the condition of certain roads in SA.
My wife and I went for a day ride to Clarens on May 1st and my normal route is via R59 past Vereeniging then take R 57 to Heilbron, Petros Steyn, Reitz and then on to Bethlehem and Clarens. It's a quiet route with no speed traps but the road after Heilbron, which has been badly potholed for some years, is now in a shocking state as the local council have decide to take the tar topping off for huge areas.
Imagine the horror as you crest a rise at 160+ on a GT and suddenly in front of you is a rocky dirt surface. They seem to be trying to patch the road in places but how long this will take is anyone?s guess so please avoid !
I took my normal route back from Clarens, through Golden Gate then up the R57 via Kestell to Reitz, Franfort Orangeville, Deneysville and home - good roads with little traffic and no traps!
