Race Dog
As horrifying as this is, something has to be done about it, and therefore I tell you about a terrible incident that took place at De Wildt on Saturday 17 October 2009.
A rider was ambushed and shot on the route known as Butch’s Rocks on the koppie near the Police Station. The motive was apparently robbery, as the shooter made of with his back pack and bum bag! Fortunately the rider was not killed, but unfortunately he was injured seriously enough to have to be airlifted out by helicopter.
An initiative has been started to help and to create an incentive for the capture of those responsible. One of the main ideas behind this incentive is to show the locals that we will not tolerate this level of criminal activity and will act boldly if necessary to stop such activities from reoccurring.

We would like to offer the police at De Wildt a sizeable reward for information leading to the successful capture and prosecution of those responsible for the shooting on Saturday. This is really important. Firstly, it will serve as a deterrent for anyone else planning something like this, and secondly, they may just catch these wonderful individuals (for want of a better phrase). Please be generous here, the one riding spot we all enjoy is really under threat. The thought of these chaps sitting in the bushes waiting to plug another rider at random is frightening to say the least. Steve Lauter has spoken to Gary from Enduro World who fully supports the idea and has agreed to have his people audit the account to ensure compliance. Please make your deposits ASAP as time is of the essence.
