Everything now a days is about smaller and lighter

My old faithful sleeping bag is nearing it's life's end and I was wondering if the "packlite" is perhaps NOT the right choice.

Let me explain:

The packlite is small and lighter but when you get that one night where you freeze your ass off you are going to wish you had a "ice breaker" and after all is that weight and size difference really worth it.
Pricing is obviously an issue but my last sleeping bag lasted 21 years so this is no short term investment...
