so Lakey asked if I wanted to ride with him to the bash, i agreed and we opted to meet with Mr T's train from PE. We met at the Colchester garage on the N2 and rode with the ballie's  until Fort Beaufort where we headed up to Hogsback for a brekkie. We couldn't wait for Hogsback so we stopped about 2kms away from Hogsback for a beer stop ( early morning beer is the best). After all its not possible to eat on an empty tummy. Thereafter we headed to Cathcart on some good gravel, stopped for some pics and stopped for more beer of course.

Thanks Lakey it was a jol riding with you.. let the pics do the talking

Dankie aan Jmol en kie vir n lekker Gathering, gister na 17:00 ingeklok het by Cradock gaan draai ou pel gaan groet.

Hey Guys, When we packed up it seems I lost my WD (jupiter) cap. Anyone picked it up please let me know. It has a bit of sentimental value, as a good friend had it specially made for me.

Thanks.

I do not think that a (long) weekend away riding 2000 km to meet old friends and make a few new ones warrants a full R/R, so I will just add to this one.
Jmol has been on my case a few years now to join them for this JOL.

Well this year was the year. Managed to finish the sidecar to such a point that I am happy she will take us there and back.
Use this opportunity to find the faults and know how and where to rectify it to make it better.

A couple of days extra to get there and back made it a long weekend for me and the wife.

Left Brakpan at lunch time on Thursday heading towards Ficksburg.  Did not want to ride the boring N1 to Bloemfontein.
The sidecar was in SWIVEL mode and we were having a nice ride up to Villiers.
There I told the wife to get on the back of the bike as I wanted to test different riding options.
Mistake I made was to remove the stabilizer arm the previous weekend as the trip to the CMCC in Germiston with my son in the sidecar was stable.

With 2 persons on the bike and the sidecar empty we started feeling an oscillation at about 110 km/h....moving left to right and back.
This was not feeling so safe so she got back into the sidecar.

But riding like this one has to concentrate and after a few hundred km's I came to the conclusion that sidecar riding should be fun.
When we got to Ficksburg I connected the solid bars to make her a SOLID setup and the next day it was really an enjoyable ride...... up to a point.

Friday saw us putting on our  rain suits...It will we a wet ride to Hogsback.

At Cathcart we turned right and then left onto the dirt.  Only 59 km.... we will be on the red wine is a jiffy....so we thought.
But it was wet and still raining.
The road is rough with stones and potholes.

About 26 km from Hogsback we went up a little hill.  There was a VW Golf in the field.. spun out.  WOW is it really this slippery ?
As we went over the crest the road goes down very steep with a right hand bend in it and the next moment the bike and sidecar just started sliding into the ditch.
I tried to FORCE it out by giving it lots of throttle but we slammed into the embankment with quit a force.
The sidecar wheel must have got stuck in the ditch and it catapulted me off the bike across my poor wife still sitting in the sidecar.
Tuck and roll...and roll.

And there we were... between nowhere and nothing with no help and a sidecar and bike stuck.

Luckily for us the grass was nice and soft, so the tuck and roll prevented anything from breaking.

Now what ??

After checking for damage (only the rear stay arm bracked was out of shape but no welds were broken) I gathered my strength and picked up the bike by the front wheel and moved it downhill.  Got it back in the road.

Double checked everything again.  Total damage was the stay arm bracket on the bike bend, the shock a bit bend and the sidecar flicker came loose.
Adjusted the stay arm turnbuckle so that the bike was riding straight again.

We got to Hogsback after another small incident offroading  :ricky:

We got a room at the Kings Lodge Hotel and had a nice meal with 2 bottles of red wine to settle the nerves.

Next morning we set off to King Williams Town to meet up with the Visarende.
The original plan was to ride together from Hogsback dirt to Thomas River, but Louis was not up to it and we decided to hit tar to the venue.

Got to Thomas River and had a great day with friends. Food was good as well.  Looked into all the buildings and took a trip back in memory.

Something I liked was to see AndreE's sons dance. Not many young men of their age can still dance.... Nie flippen stompies doodtrap nie.. REGTIG DANS. :imaposer: :imaposer:
Mooi so manne....oom Woody is trots op julle.  :thumleft:

Woody1 dink net hoe sou jy tweede gekom het op die nat grondpad as jy nie die sidecar aan gehad het.
Lyk great :thumleft:
