Hi Dogs
I am looking into getting some soft luggage for my F800GS. The Alu panniers are a bit out of my price range at this stage.
I don't have pannier racks on my bike - a set of Quick detach or whatever for the Alu boxes retail at around R3000 - give or take a few Mandela's.
The Alu boxes retail for around R10k new or R3-6k second hand.
The two top options for me at this stage is the SW Motech Dakar soft panniers that come including bike specific pannier racks.
The bags just click into the very minimalist pannier frames and strap across the seat like all the other soft luggage options.

Pro's: All-in-one solution
Pretty Big
Supposedly water proof (inner bags)
Price: R4700
Conns:
I think the included pannier frames are useless for all other soft luggage options - they are very small.
I also think the pannier frames may be a bit flimsy - they might bend or break more easily than real frames.
I have seen two people sell their sets that weren't happy with them. Didn't fit nicely on a Triumph and prohibiting the pillion from standing up on a KTM 990.
Another option is to fit a set of Rockfox soft luggage frames (R1800 - nice and sturdy)
And then get a pair of ATG Overlander saddle bags for around R3000 - amounting to pretty much the same price as the DAKARs.

Pro's:
They look pretty cool
Similar price to the DAKAR
Then I have a sturdy set of frames that can be used for most luggage options (Still no Alu boxes though)
Also waterproof inner bags
Conns:
The wife likes the Dakar's more.
Don't know how the fit will be between the frames and the bags - scared it might touch the exaust.
Slightly more expensive
Might be a bit wider.
I think these are pretty big - I am not sure if it takes up some of the pillions leg space!
What do you use/like and what alternatives/recommendations do you have?
Thanks! :thumleft:
