I’m considering putting my DR650 on partial pension and getting a youngster to share the load. A bike equivalent of my Subaru Forester - a “softroader”. But I can’t see any modern bike that’s as good as the DR. The “softies” - Transalp, T7, V-strom, KTM390 etc 8are heavy (there are 250s that have half the power of the DR but are 30% heavier!), festooned with pipes (like a washing machine) that are vulnerable to a small “off”and un-crashworthy. (Plastics that are going to break when (not if) the bike falls over in the sticks. And which will cost a small fortune to replace and a large fortune for the decals. We Aged Ones are continuously told to “move with the times”. But in the case of dual sport motorcycles time seems to be going in reverse!
