A few of us will be heading to my FAVOURITE riding spot in the Cape this Sunday - MACASSAR
If you've never been there this is an opportune time to come check out the place.
After the rain the going is decidedly easier.
Usually we 'warm up' a bit in a section of the main quarry - climb some dunes for fun after which we'll play the ever popular 'follow the leader if you can' across a bigger section of the quarry area. All of the 'obstacles' has 'escape routes' and is entirely optional. You can also bail out of the track at any time. There's is very little risk to rider and machine. Unless you have a heart attack from the sheer exhilaration. Or exhaustion. ;D
The closing ceremony usually involves a lap of the extended loop around the back-end which can take anywhere from 30-45 minutes.
This section is only safe for one-way riding and there's no turning around once you're on it. With the wet sand it's pretty easy going apart from some whoopy sections which will test your stamina. The track goes right up next to the beach and you'll search hard to find a more spectacular setting.
BE WARNED though that this is NOT really PIG country and unless you're very comfortable with a big bike in sand (and enjoy sweating) I would only recommend 650's and smaller. (All of us will be on DS's so fear not)
We meet at 9 am just before the Sheikh Yusuf Kramat after you take the turn-off to Macassar beach from Baden Powell
