Yesterday myself,Noxious and Throttle-jockey decided to give the XT 660 a test run.We passed through the Kudu reserve, over the infamous Fish river low level bridge, onto Alice,Hogsback. We enjoyed burgers at the Hog and Hornbill, then went down the much rutted Seymore pass and up the even more rutted old Balfour pass at Katberg. From there onto Adelaide and back to Grahamsown. We were very lucky with absolutely perfect weather conditions and the scenery was stunning!

The impresion I got from the feed back from some of the dogs was that the XT is a very average DS added to that that my other ride is a CR450F I was very nervous buying this bike also because I was buying blind not having riden it. But I liked the look of the bike and seeing it was one of only two converted so far I had to have it. WELL SHIMWELLS  WELL DONE I THINK IT IS FAAARKING AWWWSOME. THE DYNO TUNNING HAS DEFINATLY MADE A DIFFERANCE IT WHEELIES EASY IN SECOND AND IS SO SMOOTH. IT TOPS OUT AT +/- 175KM/H AND MAKES THE KLRS LOOK SILLY THROUGH THE GEARS. ITS CENTRE OF GRAVITY SEEMS LOW AND CORNERS VERY WELL ON TAR AND HANDLES UNBELIEVABLY ON GRAVEL. SHIMWELLS ALSO ADDED A VALVE AND NITROGEN TO THE FRONT FORKS BECAUSE I READ IN THE ENDURO WORLD THEY COMPLAINED THAT THE SHOCKS WERE MAYBE A BIT SOFT. THIS HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM IF THERE WAS ONE! I HAVE JUMPED THE BIKE AND RIDEN IT HARD OFF ROAD AND HAVE NOT USED MORE THAN 1/2 THE TRAVEL. THE EXHAUST IS VERY LOUD BUT CAN BE DRIVEN QUITELY WHEN NO ATTENTION IS REQUIRED FROM TRAFFIC COPS. I HAVE NOW DONE 700 KM ON IT IN TWO DAYS AND I CAN SAFELY SAY I HAVE DEFINATLY MADE THE CORRECT CHOICE. FRIENDS THAT RIDE IT EITHER WANT ONE OR GIVE A VERY STRONG THUMBS UP. IF YAMAHA SOLD THIS BIKE IN ITS CURRENT FORM I THINK THERE WOULD BE A LOT OF OTHER XT'S OUT THERE. ONCE AGAIN SHIMWELLS COVERED ALL OF THE STANDARD VERSION SHORT COMMINGS WELL DONE!!!!!! I WILL SHOW IT OF AT THE NEXT MEET. IF I HAVE TO GIVE A NEGATIVE IT WILL BE THAT THE TANK IS TOO SMALL AT 15 LITRES. BUT I THINK THIS HELPS MAKE THE BIKE FEEL LITE. IF ANYONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS CONTACT ME BUT BUY ONE WITH THE EXTREME VERSION YOU WLL NOT BE SORRY.
