Many of us have cellphones with built-in GPS units. It would be great to be able to use tracks4africa, however, it doesn't work on Symbian devices. The POI and roads' text don't display properly (Only the first capital letter is shown, and everything else is truncated). This has been mentioned in a number of threads already, but I don't believe anyone's managed to get T4A running on a Symbian device yet.

I finally had a few spare minutes this weekend and have confirmed a codepage incompatibility with the T4A maps, after a tip from Buzzlightyear in https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=23089.0 and https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=22244.0

Garmin Mobile XT for Symbian S60 requires codepage 1252, which is 8 bit Western-European. T4A is codepage 0, which is some custom Garmin 6 or 7 bit arrangement. I have just mangled the T4A maps into codepage 1252 and it now works. Unfortunately, my free version of cgpsmapper doesn't support the building of *.img files with auto-routing, so the maps are now non-routable. However, the fact that they now work indicates that we're onto the right track with the text encoding.

I've fired-off emails to both T4A to ask if they'd consider switching to a more modern codepage and to Garmin to find out if they'd add codepage 0 support to the Symbian version (apparently they did this to the Windows Mobile version after some pestering). So I'd encourage you all to do the same :deal: I'm sure someone will relent if we annoy them with enough emails.
