I did not expect to take this topic up again this year, but it is an area where there are so many opinions and theories, but very little actual knowledge. So, there are a few things worth mentioning here:
The newest EURO5 emission standard has lower emission limits than the previous EURO4 standard (Not a big surprise). But more important is the new demand for onboard monitoring (Anti-tamper monitoring) in the EURO5 standard, and the manufacturer is now obliged to make the fuel injection ECU flash a warning in the dashboard if the fuel injection function is modified.
We have seen this happen on many times when the BoosterPlug is installed on a EURO5 approved motorcycle, but not all EURO5 bikes are yet affected by this.
But as this modification warning is an obligation on the manufacturer, there is no point in selling the BoosterPlug for the EURO5 motorcycles that does not yet have this monitoring function programmed into the ECU, because it can easily change with the next software update of the fuel injection ECU when the customer is having his bike serviced by the dealer.
If we sold the BoosterPlug for a EURO5 bike and it would flash a warning after the bike have been serviced, we would be swamped in complaints about faulty BoosterPlug’s !
So the only realistic, decent and honest solution is not to sell the BoosterPlug for bikes newer than 2020.
It is also important to mention that this problem affects all fuel enrichment devices in the market – not just the BoosterPlug. We have seen some suppliers advertising their solution for EURO5 approved
bikes, but they are “on thin ice” because it is a firm demand in the EURO5 standard that the manufacturer is obliged to lock out all current of future attempts to tamper with the fuel injection.
So nobody can guarantee that they have a lasting solution for EURO5 approved motorcycles.
The EURO5 approved bikes need the small, controlled fuel enrichment from the BoosterPlug more than ever, and we would love to be able to offer a solution for the newest bikes, but this is not a choice available for us.
But all bikes from 2020 and older are not (and will not be) affected by this problem, so there are still aprox. 42 million fuel injection motorcycles on the streets that are in potential need of BoosterPlug, and we are definitely not going out of business
