Looks like Garmin have finally released the device that will replace my Quests : the new Montana meets all my needs on paper : rugged, waterproof, multiple battery options, tracks, plenty of memory, decent size screen, etc, etc. Plenty 'nice to have's' too - barometric altimeter with altitude profiling, 5MP camera, Supports Geocaching GPX files natively on the unit - and LOTS more- take a read! 
- all seems to good to be true! I can't wait to get my grubby paws on one. They seem to be going for about R5500.00 sans maps (https://www.techshop.co.za/ProductInfo.aspx?ItemId=1325)
