Great foto!

:peepwall:

Bliksem! No cell reception.........can't phone mommy!

That's when I shoot a flair for Helivac.  :imaposer:

Ek was n paar jaar weg en het gewonder wat van die generaal geword het  O0

  I'm very glad you saw sense or you would probably have got into serious shit.

You guys are a lot more responsible than I though you would be.
Sometimes it helps if you can evaluate your situation properly. Thank god you guys did not just tumble down this road.
The whole story makes a good read even without getting down to the river.
Well done guys.

Still made a good RR but  :thumleft: on making a good choice, "Hind sight is an exact science"

well done guys
good descission on not continuing

fukkit  i fell of me chair twice  just looking at that road  :thumleft:

That sand on the Groenrivier section does'nt let one through on a bike without a bit of work. It is easier in the mornings though when the sand is could and more compact.

Good thing that sanity prevailed on top of that road to hell. Think I will prefer a helicopter to take me down there.

Nice RR and write-up about the dynamics in the group.

Absolutely..we did it in the morning, just after the rain.

Been up there before, and considering the above, I thought it would be a quicky.

Have never seen it as sandy, but neither have I shared it with so many 4x4's (It was long weekend)

OK, here is my part.
The start, well almost I took Buksie with, if only could get a helmet for him.

Waiting under a tree for the guys to regroup somewhere between Clanwilliam and Vredendal.

I think the whole decision going down that hill hinged on Michiels injured shoulder. When you are not feeling 100% things generally do look much worse than what they really are.....

ROCKS!!!! what rocks....are we scared of rocks?

Ek is baie bang vir klippies wat my bike kan seermaak :eek7:
My bike mag nie bergklim of die scuba deur riviere nie. Ons kyk mooi na mekaar op die ver paaie  :ricky:

At Lutzville we put in petrol and got a snack. My nerves where shot for I have done this part before but behind the wheel of a 4x4 and a cold one in the fist. I have never done serious sand before. Loaded with extra petrol and a big bike was going to be seriously sweaty.
When we got to the start at Rob eiland, the gate was closed and the guard nogal hardegat.
Anyway a friendly Toppie told us to go back to Koekenaap, turn left and then left again, then we would be cutting out the guard and start almost where we planned to. Needless to say I missed the "left again" and we travelled a bit on tar till we got to Brand se baai.
Here we deflated, as Justin would say it, our tyres and I made the first mistake. Only let air out of the front tyre to about 1.5bar. I thought that the back tyre was only for pushing so I kept it at 2.5bar. Needless to say I was riding like I usually walk on Saturday nights.

I took off while the rest was still fiddling with the tyres. Partly cause I felt I was going to keep the guys waiting, I did not want to be embarressed falling around in front of the ou ryers and also I love riding alone.  Well, I was all over the place and the only way to concour that was to speed up. At times I was doing way over a 100 and it helped. You start to plain on the sand like a boat, felt wonderfull except when you start getting sharp twists or your nose started to itch.

The thing that made that road a real challenge was the gradient and added to that was the long relentless sections offering no place for an easy start.
There is one thing that was very positive, the road was reasonably straight up all the way. If you keep your momentum and can keep the traction down I believe it will be possible although one or two tumbles here and there might be at the order of the day.

We did not have much water and time was also running out for some of us. We will have to come back on another day.

You will need two things though, lots of water and supplies and enough time. I would safely say that it could take the best part of the day to get 4 or 5 bikes out of there with riders that are confident enough to stay on the pegs and keep the power on no matter how out of shape you might get.

let post some images;

While some of the others were sleeping in the comfort of the Hondehok Chalets, the rest of us kept with the spirit of the ride and camped by the beach. ;)
