Thumper's Canal Ride – 9 October 2022
Hosted by Hero Motorcycles South Africa
The Thumper Canal Ride is a fun, social, non-competitive ride open to all road-legal dual-purpose motorcycles with one cylinder or a capacity of less than 500cc. The idea behind this event is to bring together and encourage people to ride smaller dual-purpose motorcycles and the joy therein.
The day starts at Mulligans (https://g.page/MulligansPubRestaurant?share) near Hartbeespoort Dam from 8am on Sunday 9 October where coffee and breakfast are available. Rider’s Briefing is at 8:45 and everyone can set off at their leisure from 9am.
The Canal Road is a famous route among dirt and adventure riders. It is mostly a dirt service road following an irrigation canal stemming from the dam and finishes at the famous Beestekraal Stasie (https://goo.gl/maps/WP9dKdbxRFmL6yQg7) on the road between Brits and Thabazimbi. Everyone then returns home or back to Mulligans at their leisure.
The ride is approximately 90km and consists of smooth, easy dirt roads (with some tar) that are suitable for riders of all skill levels. The entire route will be marked out so everyone is can ride at their own pace.
The Thumper's Canal Ride is hosted by Hero Motorcycles who will be supplying demo models for anyone to try out throughout the day. People who are already Hero riders will receive a gift from Hero Motorcycles South Africa.
The ride itself is free of charge with participants handling only their own bar/restaurant bills. There is safe parking for bakkies and trailers at Mulligan's.
Bigger bike riders can attend but, in the inevitable scenario where they drop their heavy bikes, will have to pick them up on their own while the thumper crowd watches the entertainment. Riders of plastic bikes that are not road legal are welcome but have to complete the entire route by aquaplaning along the canal.
See everyone at Mulligan's on 9 October.
